The company is a Multi Level Marketing (MLM) company whose headquarters are in Meridian, Idaho USA.
It was founded by Kara Egan and Colette Gunnell in Utah in 2003. In 2004, they sold it to Orville Thompson and his wife Heidi Thompson who moved the headquarters to Meridian, Idaho, USA and relaunched it as an MLM.
Kara remained with the company as an independent Scentsy Consultant.
The company serves many countries that include Australia, New Zealand, Canada (Scentsy Canada), UK (Scentsy UK), Austria, Germany.
It grew very fast and in 2012 it had over 170,000 active independent consultants.
The growth does not stop there; in 2017 it had over $450 in annual sales becoming number 44 on direct sales’ News list of the top direct selling company.
The company has also been listed on Forbes magazine.

How To Become A Scentsy Consultant
After signing up you choose the starter kit. The Starter Kit starts at about $99 but there are other enhanced kits that are more expensive.
The kits come with everything you need to get started with the enhanced ones coming with more products.
The Scentsy Compensation Plan
You are compensated on:
- Retail where the commission starts at 20% with a maximum of 30%.
- Recruitment: This allows you to have a downline. When they buy products, you gain by qualifying for more commissions.

Is Scentsy A Scam Or A Pyramid Scheme
No. It is not a Scam. It is a legit company with legit products
The only thing is that if you look at the Statistics of MLM, you will see that about 99% of Most MLM Independent Consultants are not able to earn a full-time income.
I was an MLM distributor and during the presentations, you are told that to make money, all what you need to do is use the products and tell others how good the products are.
You are not told that there are other requirements that you have to meet in order to qualify for commission.
# One of the Scentsy’s monthly sales requirements is that you must generate a minimum of 200 points in Personal Retail Volume in at least one month within 4 consecutive months.
# You can hardly make money without recruiting. The larger the downline, the more you are likely to earn more.
The problem here is that your downline has to perform well and they are also depending on their downline to perform well for them to earn more. This means that you are all depending on one another.
This type of business can be very difficult for you to plan your future as you are relying on others.
If they don’t work hard, you earn less.
I stayed in MLM for several years and later on realised that I am not in any control of my future.
My future depended so much on my downline. Every time one of them dropped out, my earning dropped.
Later on, I learnt that that was the trend in most MLMs meaning that moving from one MLM to another won’t help. Most MLMs depend on team building (having a downline and each of your downline having a downline and their downline having a downline)
People join thinking that they are going to have this large downline who are also eager to build their business; theoretically, it works but practically, it only works to about 1% of distributors.
Don’t get me wrong; it might work for you, and I am not going to tell you not to try it out.
Not working for me does not mean that it won’t work for you. People are different.

To say the truth, Scentsy’s products smell nice and I would buy them but I would not do it as a business.
You have to sell a lot of the products as well as recruit to make a full-time income.

To quit my job, l had to see a steady flow of income from the MLM company I was in.
